 Weitere Anforderungen für die Einstellung:

 Die Alfried Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach-Professur soll erstmals an

 einer Hochschule in Deutschland eine eigenständige Lehre und Forschung

 im Bereich der Kunst Afrikas ermöglichen. Wegen dieser besonderen

 Aufbausituation erwartet die Universität von den Kandidat/innen neben

 dem Nachweis herausragender Forschungsbeiträge zur Kunst Afrikas den

 Entwurf eines Forschungsprogramms zur Begründung und langfristigen

 Etablierung des neuen Forschungsgebiets. Dabei soll insbesondere der

 kulturellen Eigenständigkeit der Kunst Afrikas sowie ihrer Bedeutung 

fürdie Moderne Rechnung getragen werden. Vorausgesetzt wird, dass die

 Bewerber/innen mit Theorien und Methoden der Kunstwissenschaft vertraut

 sind, Erfahrung in der erfolgreichen Einwerbung und Durchführung von

 Drittmittelprojekten mitbringen sowie über internationale Lehr- und

 Forschungserfahrung verfügen.

 Erwartungen an die künftige Tätigkeit:

 Für die Professur ist die Zusammenarbeit mit den ortsansässigen

 Sammlungen, Museen und wissenschaftlichen Einrichtungen unverzichtbar.

 Darüber hinaus wird die Mitarbeit in den ortsansässigen

 Forschungsinitiativen wie zum Beispiel dem SFB 626 ("Ästhetische

 Erfahrung im Zeichen der Entgrenzung der Künste") und der Berliner

 Exzellenzinitiative, zum Beispiel den Exzellenzclustern ("Languages of

 Emotion" und "Topoi") oder der Berlin Graduate School "Muslim Cultures

 and Societies" erwartet. Die Universität wünscht sich besonderes

 Engagement in der Lehre und die motivierte Beteiligung an der

 Alfried Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach Professorship in African Art (W3)

 The successful applicant is required to research and teach in the

 aforementioned field.

 In accordance with article 100 of the Berlin Higher Education Act

 (Berliner Hochschulgesetz), a Habilitation, junior professorship, or

 equivalent postdoctoral qualification is required for this position.

 The Alfried Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach Professorship is the first of

 its kind in Germany, given its focus on the field of African art.

 Applicants are expected to have already produced a significant body of

 work in this field and to be willing to contribute to its further, local

 and international, development. To demonstrate their eligibility,

 candidates should submit a list of relevant publications as well as a

 vision statement describing their concept for future action. The

 Institute of Art History at Freie Universität Berlin is especially

 interested in people who have worked on the question of the cultural

 autonomy of African art as well as on the matter of its impact on

 modernity. Applicants are expected to be well versed in historical and

 contemporary theories and methods of art history and to have an

 outstanding track record of university teaching and research. They

 should also have already acquired experience acquiring funding for, as

 well as carrying out, sponsored research.

 The appointee should be willing to cooperate with local art museums,

 collections, and local academic institutions. Collaboration with local

 Collaborative Research Centers (e.g., SFB 626: Esthetic Experience and

 the Dissolution of Artistic Limits) and with projects funded through the

 federal and state governments' Initiative for Excellence---the Clusters

 of Excellence, Languages of Emotion and Topoi

 (www.geisteswissenschaften.fu-berlin.de/languagesofemotion ,

 www.topoi-berlin.de ), and the Berlin Graduate School of Muslim Cultures

 and Societies---is essential. The successful candidate will be further

 expected to assume teaching responsibilities with dedication, and to be

 willing to assume administrative tasks in the academic institutions 

concerned.

 In general, the language of instruction is German, but some teaching may

 be conducted in English. A non-German-speaking appointee will need to be

 able to teach in German within two years.

 The vacancy is a tenured position at the rank of W3. The successful

 candidate will be appointed either as a public servant or as a

 comparable salaried employee.

 The successful applicant will be required to research and teach in the
