BLOWING ROCK - An early morning fire destroyed a building at the Tweetsie
Railroad theme park in Blowing Rock Sunday.

Blowing Rock firefighters with help from Boone firefighters responded to the
call about 4 a.m., according to Winston Lawrence of the Blowing Rock Fire &
Rescue.

 The blaze destroyed a 1,300-square-foot building that housed the Tweetsie
museum including costumes worn by popular cowboy star, Fred Kirby. The
building also had a first aid center and concession stand.

Investigators are probing the cause of the blaze.

The park, which first opened in 1957, will open for the 2008 season on May
2.
