Police recover stolen icons in Poland

Police have recovered icons stolen from an Orthodox church in Lodz, central Poland.  

Representatives of the Orthodox church in Lodz notified the police last Thursday about the missing icons worth several thousands of zlotys. They were, however, unable to say exactly when the paintings went missing, as renovation works in the church have been going for several months now.  

Two of the four icons appeared at Internet auctions, which allowed the police to capture the 43-year old dealer in stolen goods.

The man has been charged with dealing in stolen goods and he may be facing up to 5 years in prison. The police are currently looking for the thieves.
