Waterbury woman faces another art theft charge

A painting of women and children meandering through a garden that went missing from the Walzer Family Jewish Community Center in Southbury in November was stolen by a Waterbury woman accused in other area art thefts, police said. Diane Catalani, 52, of 17 Greystone Ave. was charged on a warrant Friday with third-degree larceny after police said they found the oil landscape in her possession. Catalani is accused of somehow slipping in to the Jewish center's administrative offices and taking the painting off a wall in early November. She was arrested later that month when police seized paintings and artifacts they say Catalani stole from numerous museums, schools and churches in Greater Waterbury and Northwest Connecticut.
