Valuable Elvis painting returned to owner in Stillwater

The Associated Press - Wednesday, February 06, 2008
STILLWATER, Minn.

Elvis is back.

The Washington County Sheriff's Office says an Oakdale woman has returned a
valuable Elvis painting after it was mistakenly grabbed from a driveway last
month.

Homeowner Jon Kittelsen placed the painting at the end of his driveway of
his home in West Lakeland Township to welcome guests to a business meeting
on January 30.

When people left that night, it was gone. The black and white painting
depicts Elvis in the 1956 movie King Creole.

The painting had been appraised for thousands of dollars, with one buyer
offering $15,000.

The sheriff's office says a passing motorist thought the painting had been
put out with the recycling and grabbed it. It was then given to the
motorist's sister, an Elvis fan.

She later saw news reports about the missing painting and called the
sheriff's office and asked that the painting be returned.
