Paintings taken from art league show

Warrington artist Bodo Knochenhauer left his painting "Poppy in Bloom" at
the Doylestown Hospital Wellness Center in March feeling honored his work
was selected for display at his art league's exhibit.

When the show ended last week, all that remained of the painting was a hook
on the wall.

Knochenhauer's 20-by-24-inch oil painting was stolen from the 49th annual
Doylestown Art League Members Juried Show, on display at the Wellness Center
in Warrington. He's offering $500 - roughly the painting's value - to have
it returned. Another artist's oil painting, named "French Seaside Village,"
was also taken from the Wellness Center display.

Finding the stolen art could prove challenging. Sorting through surveillance
video could take a considerable amount of time since the paintings could
have been taken from three different exit points at any time over the past
several weeks, said Wellness Center facilities director Joe Donato.

The Doylestown Art League has held shows at the center on Easton Road for
several years, said league president Henry Holkey. Donato said he will
discuss with officials whether these thefts will change the way the Wellness
Center approaches art exhibits held at the facility. There may be a need for
security cameras on the part of the second floor where the painting was
displayed, he said.

The thefts will not stop the art league from moving forward with upcoming
shows, Holkey said.
