Marine to discuss effort to recover Iraqi treasures

SCOTTSDALE - Col. Matthew Bogdanos will talk Wednesday at a Scottsdale
library about his efforts at recovering 5,000 antiquities looted from the
Baghdad, Iraq, museum.
His talk will be at 6:30 p.m., Civic Center Library, 3839 N. Drinkwater
Blvd.
After the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, Bogdanos was recalled to active duty in
the Army, where he led a multi-agency task force in Afghanistan and Iraq.
While in Iraq, Bogdanos began investigating the looting of Baghdad's Iraq
Museum, resulting in the recovery of over 5,000 antiquities in six
countries. He is the recipient of a 2005 National Humanities Medal for his
work recovering Iraq's treasures, and the author of Thieves of Baghdad: One
Marine's Passion to Recover the World's Greatest Stolen Treasures.
Books will be available for sale. Book royalties are donated to the Iraq
National Museum.
