Well-planned gang lifts hefty £30,000 statue

A RARE bronze statue of a peacock, worth around £30,000, has been stolen
from a garden.

The three-metre high sculpture, one of only 12 made, was taken from a house
between Wimborne and Ferndown.

Police say a gang would have been needed to lift it - and believe it was
stolen to order or for sale on the scrap metal market.

The thieves broke through a fence to get to the statue, which acts as a
fountain, and also stole its plinth and base.

PC Paul Mellor, of Wimborne police, said: "The theft appears to have been
very well planned with the thieves making use of a tractor in a next-door
property to lift the statue, plinth and base out of the garden and on to a
vehicle."

Officers want to hear from people who have seen the sculpture or heard
someone bragging about its theft.
