Antiques trade is second most profitable activity: history museum director
17 May 2007 | 17:28 | FOCUS News Agency
Veliko Tarnovo. Trade in antiques is the second most profitable activity following drug dealing, director of the Regional History Museum in the town of Veliko Tarnovo (Northern Bulgaria) Ivan Tsarov told Radio Focus-Veliko Tarnovo in a comment to the latest stolen antiques affair in the town of Pavlikeni.
According to him each settlement houses at least one such criminal group.
Treasure hunters in Bulgaria are about 200,000-300,000 and they are organized. I have heard trade in antiques uses the channels of drug dealing. Bulgaria rates third in number of monuments of culture, following Italy and Greece, which have already established a special police branch dealing with monuments of culture and trade in antiques, Ivan Tsarov added.
