Antique idol recovered in Tripura capital 

Agartala (PTI) An 11th century black stone idol of Lord Narayana was seized
from a bag in the heart of the city here, police said on Tuesday. 

The idol measuring about two and half feet in height and weighing about 180
kg was kept hidden in a bag. 

Based on specific information, police of West Agartala police station
carried out a raid at the place adjacent to a school yesterday and seized
the idol, Deputy SP (Central) Nityananda Debnath here today. 

"All the police stations were asked to verify whether any FIR was registered
about the theft of idol", he said. 

The value of the idol at international market may even run to the tune of
Rs.3 crore, P B Bhattacharjee, curator of Tripura Government Museum said
after examining the idol.
