Missing artwork driver sentenced to 5 years

The Associated Press
A delivery driver, who was arrested after he disappeared while transporting
$1.5 million in artwork and furniture, was sentenced to five years in
prison.

Patrick McIntosh, 37, pleaded guilty Wednesday to a single grand theft
charge for disappearing in April with a Budget rental truck filled with at
least $1.5 million worth of furnishings and art, including rare Milton Avery
paintings. A restitution hearing is scheduled for later, the South Florida
Sun-Sentinel reported for Friday's editions.

McIntosh, who was working as a driver for David Jones Fine Art Services in
Boca Raton, was supposed to pick up several more pieces across the state in
Naples before heading to New York to make drop-offs. He never showed up in
Naples.

The day he was reported missing, authorities noticed that David Jones'
company credit cards were used to withdraw $200 in Fort Pierce and another
$600 was taken out in Gainesville the next day.

McIntosh has a lengthy criminal history dating back to 1989 with at least
three convictions for trafficking in stolen property and grand theft,
according to state Department of Corrections records. His latest release
from prison was in December after serving about a year for a probation
violation.

It was not immediately known if McIntosh had an attorney.
