Two Stolen Statues Recovered; Two Taken into Custody
Patna: November 18, 2006
The CBI in Kolkata have taken two brothers into remand in connection with
the theft of 18 ancient relics stolen from Patna Museum last September after
two of the statues were recovered from their possession, the police in Patna
said.
Sajid and Shahid Warsi were brought to Patna under CBI custody after a
judicial magistrate granted permission to the premier investigative agency
to take the two into its custody.
The two brothers will be presented before a CBI court on November 24.
It may be recalled that on September 26, burglars, possibly with the help
from some museum insider, broke open the window on the second floor of the
museum and stole 18 rare Buddha and Mahavir statues belonging to the Pala
era.
The statues are estimated to have a value of several crore rupees in the
international market.
