Most everything underneath the missing chunk of roof at the Virginia Museum
of Transportation is ok, but one room was hit hard.
A small room full of transportation pictures, papers and artifacts was so
soaked everything inside had to be taken out quickly.
The museum moved them to a dry place with fans and dehumidifiers for now
hoping to deep freeze them soon before they're ruined. It's a process the
museum used when it was hit by the flood of 1985.
"It worked pretty well and you recovered a lot more than you thought you
would," museum consultant Bev Fitzpatrick said.
The museum is waiting for its insurance company to make the final call to
freeze dry.
The artifacts are insured, but the museum says money can't replace one of a
kind items.
