Who decided that the Parthenon Sculptures belong to everyone? Right: the
people who looted the sculptures and took them to England. Besides, if the
sculptures belong to everyone why not show at their original place?

Apparently theft does not matter as long as the loot is being exposed to
millions (like Chrirac's looted NOK statues in Musee Quay Branly).

What would become of society if thieves set the rule about the legitimacy of
stolen property? A very strange attitude of a (former) cop!

Subject: Parthenon sculptures and the British Museum

Dear Ton,

Once again, your sneering is simply counter-productive. The article by
Norman Lebrecht is interesting (as you note) and well written. It is not
unduly adulatory of the BM Director, nor sycophantic to him. His point is
the one you deliberately ignore: the British Museum's argument is that the
Parthenon Sculptures belong to everyone, present and future. You may not
agree with that as an argument, but to ignore it and then resort to silly
comments about Neil McGregor himself weakens your arguments about where the
Sculptures can be best preserved and exhibited.

Yours ever,

Charley Hill
