The wathcers, 1963. The figure on the right was stolen.
Part of a Lynn Chadwick sculpture, more than two metres tall, has been
stolen from Roehampton University, in south-west London. The watchers, cast
in bronze in 1963, was displayed in the grounds of the college's Downshire
House. On the night of 10/11 January one of the three figures was cut at its
feet and removed. Weighing a third of a tonne, it would probably have taken
eight men to carry it. A reward is being offered. Police believe the theft
may be connected with that of Moore's Reclining figure.
