Thieves have run off with a million-dollar painting by renowned Swedish
author August Strindberg.

The painting, Svartsjukans Natt (Jealousy's Night), was stolen mid-afternoon
Wednesday from a museum in central Stockholm, police said.

One man removed the painting from the wall while two others distracted
staff. The three men then ran out of the museum and disappeared, police
spokesman Bjorn Engstrom said.

Police are searching for the suspects.

Strindberg, one of Sweden's best known novelists and playwrights, completed
the painting in 1893 in Berlin. Reports in Swedish media have given the
painting an unconfirmed value of 10 million Swedish kronor ($1.5 million).

Strinberg, one of the fathers of modern theatre, is perhaps most famous for
his play Miss Julie and his novel The Red Room.

In Norway, the trial for another brazen daylight art robbery, gets underway
this week, as six men are tried for the theft of Edvard Munch's The Scream
and Madonna from the Munch Museum in Oslo.
