Several Auckland gallery owners are increasing security after thieves stole
more than $13,000 worth of art.

The thefts include two glass vases valued at $10,000 taken from the
Masterworks gallery in Ponsonby.

Gallery manager Eloise Kitson believes galleries are being deliberately
targeted for distinctive works of art.

She says it is hard to run a business when the work walks out the door for
free.

Nearby Nash Glass has also had $3,000 worth of work stolen, including a
valuable plate and 12 pieces of jewellery.

Gallery owner Garry Nash says it is soul destroying to lose his work through
the burglaries.

Police are investigating the recent break-ins and are not ruling out a link
between the cases.
