On 3 Dec 2006, Sig. Giovanni Pinna forwrded an inquiry to this list in
which he asked the president of ICOM and the executive council to make
known ICOM's position on the existing dispute between the Italian State
and the Getty Museum and in particular on the arrogant refusal of the
Getty Museum to restitute to Italy numerous art objects of archeology the
Italian government considers to have been illegally exported in recent
years.
Sig. Pinna also asked what actions have been undertaken, or will be
undertaken, by ICOM regarding any of the Getty Museum's possible
violations of ICOM's code of ethics.
We as well ardently desire a response to this inquiry. What is ICOM's
official position to Michael Brand's arrogant maneuvering and what
actions, if any, will be undertaken against the Getty for any
violations of ICOM's Code of Ethics.
