XENIA | If they could breathe, Beavercreek's decorative 25th anniversary
beaver statues might breathe a sigh of relief.
Greene County Common Pleas Judge Stephen Wolaver on Monday ordered one of
three adults accused in the theft this summer of two beavers to stand guard
over the 250-pound street art on display throughout the city.
Michael Ledford, 18, of Beavercreek pleaded no contest for a single
fifth-degree theft charge Sept. 9 and was convicted. Wolaver ordered him to
spend 66 hours watching over the 6 1/2-foot tall fiberglass works until they
are auctioned for charity in October.
Ledford declined comment Monday.
Assistant Greene County Prosecutor Andrew Hunt said Ledford will be given a
chair and have access to a cell phone while guarding the beavers.
Beavercreek police will monitor his progress.
