Brisbane art theft accused denies heist claims
September 19, 2005
A Brisbane man who is charged with stealing artwork has dismissed as absurd,
claims he is involved in one of Australia's biggest art heists.
Richard Noel Dunlop, 44, appeared in the Brisbane Magistrates Court today,
charged with stealing a quantity of artwork belonging to Allyson Reynolds
from the Doggett Street Studio in Newstead.
Dunlop will defend the charge and has been remanded to appear for committal
mention on November 14.
Police seized a number of works from Dunlop's Windsor home.
Outside the court, Dunlop said there is only one charge involving three
drawings, and media claims of a heist are unfounded.
"The whole issue has been fanned along by people with particular agendas,"
he said.
"And I'm just going to continue my focus on producing good artwork, and soon
enough I expect this will be behind me."
