FIREFIGHTERS battling blazes at A-listed buildings can now access expert
advice on how to limit damage to the properties.

Historic Scotland has created a database containing details of the most
important buildings in the country and highlighting areas of importance to
be given priority in the event of a fire.

Mike Coull, the heritage co-ordinator for the Scottish Fire Services, who
developed it, said: "The database contains a wide range of details on, for
example, the structure of the property and its important architectural and
historical features."

Mr Coull, who was formerly with Grampian Fire and Rescue Service and has
worked in the industry for 27 years, added: "[Crews] can look up details of
the building and plan their firefighting strategy en route."

Ingval Maxwell, Historic Scotland's director of technical conservation,
research and education, described the work as extremely important.
