Stolen Munch paintings 'up for sale'
Police in Oslo believe a man being held in connection with last summer's
dramatic Munch art robbery tried to sell the two paintings that were
snatched.

The 37-year-old suspect from the southeastern Norwegian county of Østfold
reportedly was in negotiations to try fencing the two classic works by
Edvard Munch, Skrik and Madonna, according to newspaper VG.

No sale was completed, even though several people were allegedly involved in
the attempted trade.

Another Oslo newspaper reported recently that the robbers destroyed the
stolen Munch paintings. Police, however, continue to believe they will
recover the two works that are among Munch's best-known.

The suspect himself continues to deny any connection with the Munch robbery,
according to his defense attorney, Sverre Næss.

Two other men have also been arrested for the bold daytime robbery at Oslo's
Munch Museum last August.
