Historic chalices stolen

BURLINGTON, Vt. Police are investigating a robbery at the Vermont Diocese
offices.

Church leaders say burglars broke into the empty offices of the Diocese over
the Easter weekend, broke into a safe, and made off with several historic
chalices.

One of the chalices was a gift from a pope 150 years ago. It's been used at
the convocation of every new Bishop since 1853, including that of Bishop
Kenneth Angel twelve years ago.

The Bishop is particularly concerned because the chalice will be needed for
the installation of a new Bishop in just two weeks.

Angel has asked anyone with information about the theft to call him and he
will do whatever it takes to get the chalice back.
