Eight antiquities robbers caught

Eight suspects were arrested on Monday night by Antiquities Authority agents
in connection with the theft of antiquities in the Modi'in area. The eight
are residents of Kfar Tzurif, near Hebron, and were arrested following a
stake-out that agents of the authority carried out for a week. They were
seen entering a cave with relics from the second century and were arrested
on suspicion of planning to steal antiquities. Amir Ganor, head of the unit,
said the cave was one of a series used as hide-outs in the Bar Kochva
period. The men were employed in construction in the Modi'in area and lacked
the necessary permits for being in Israel. (Yuval Azoulay)
