SCOTTSDALE - Police have recovered a statue worth an estimated $10,000, one
of several pieces of art taken from downtown Scottsdale galleries during a
rash of thefts.

Scottsdale detectives found the 8½-foot-tall steel statue, that of a Native
American woman, in a Phoenix storage facility, said Scottsdale Police Sgt.
Mark Clark.

It was reported stolen in April from the Lovena Ohl Gallery, 7144 E. Main
St., one of five statues reported taken this year from one of Scottsdale's
premier gallery rows along Main Street west of Scottsdale Road.

No arrests have been made, Clark said.

In response to the burglaries, police this month bolstered their presence in
the downtown arts district by adding 10 officers, with four more coming in
September.

Photos of all the sculptures are posted on the police department's Web site:
www.scottsdaleaz.gov/lawenforcement/artthefts.asp .

Police ask those with information to call Silent Witness at (480) 948-6377,
or the Scottsdale Police Department at (480) 312-5000.
