£7,500 painting stolen from hospital

17 January 2005
A Charlie McAuley painting of a bus on the Antrim Coast Road valued at
around £7,500 has been stolen from the Braid Valley Hospital, Ballymena.

It is believed two youths stole the painting last Thursday.

They are described as aged from 17-20 wearing light coloured clothing.
Police said they made off in the direction of the nearby Dunclug estate.

Anyone who has any information about the theft or who is offered this
painting for sale should contact the police in Ballymena on 25653355, or
with guaranteed anonymity Crimestoppers 0800 555 111.

Staff were disappointed at the raid.

Said one:

"Paintings like that stolen were donated to the hospital for the enjoyment
of patients, visitors and staff. This particular picture was well mounted
and screwed into the wall so it must have taken time to screw it off. "
