Obelisk is almost home

Addis Ababa - The second of three pieces of Ethiopia's huge Axum obelisk,
plundered by fascist Italy nearly 70 years ago, arrived home on Friday as
anticipation mounted for the return next week of the final portion,
officials said. 

"The second piece of the obelisk arrived this morning at 06:30 at the Axum
airport," said Marco Cerbo, the spokesperson for the Italian embassy in
Ethiopia. 

"It was unloaded in about two-and-a-half hours and now it is on a truck in
the airport," he said from the northern town of Axum, where the first piece
arrived amid great fanfare on Tuesday.
