HERITAGE: 18TH CENTURY OIL PAINTING RECOVERED
(AGI) - Palermo, Italy, Apr. 5 - Carabinieri have recovered an 18th century oil painting stolen from the church of Saint Francis in Palermo. Stolen in August 2003, the octagonal painting (1m x 1.04m) portrays the baby Jesus sitting on the Earth clasped by the spires of a snake. The baby wears a blue cloak brandishing a standard which reads "Ad Maiorem Dei Gloriam". The painting was recovered along with its original frame allowing experts to claim with certainty that the finding was the original. The painting was first logged in 1991. The painting was recovered thanks to a constant monitoring of the antiques market, leading to the finding in the premises of an antiques dealer. (AGI) .
